i finished the book today, The Hungry Tide" by Amitaav Ghosh. i strtd rdin it quite a long time ago on panchami. its an adult book which ma gav me to read. so the language nd xpressions were quite hard +new to me. gradually i got used to it. it is a book on the tide country of sundarbans. the life in the country where most of the land sinks regularly evryday. the main characters were kanai, piya, nirmal, kusum, fokir. fokir died in the cyclone tht took place at the vry end of the story. he does not hav a single sppech here. still he became the hero by helping nd saving piya in many ways. piya was a cetologist who came thre to find info bout the Oraella dolphin nd Gangetic Dolphin. kanai was a translator who came to Visit in lusibari on his aunt's call. he met piya on his way to Lusibari.
Nirmal had left a small package for kanai to open nd read. so his wife nirmala askd kanai to cum to Lusibari.
b4 1970s during the time of the division of bangla, ppl who were hindi were forced to leave their land nd come to india. they were gathered in a forst in Madhya Pradesh. frm there a group of ppl decided to return to their tide country as they cudnt bear the 'red' soil thre in MP. they settled on an island called Morichjhapi which was a part of the Forest Department. so, vry soon thre was a conflict btween the goverment nd fighting, bloodshedding strted. the settlers blievd in a god calld bon bibi.
i liked the book vry much nd was quite disappointd when fokir died. it was a diff world , away frm ours. the picture of the sundarbans, lusibari ..........it seemd like watching a movie.
